Iceland Residency
I spent part of May in an art residency in Iceland. The land there felt raw, powerful and overwhelming. I felt exposed, like there was nowhere to hide. I made peace by lying on a rock, feeling the heartbeat of the earth beneath me.
Here is one photograph from a behind the scenes moment. I usually begin with a clear idea of what I’m going for, but the final image often unfolds through the process itself. I tune in to my body and the landscape and let it lead me.
In this last photograph, I am holding ice in my hand. I felt it melting, shifting shapes in my palm.
I felt the passage of time. Now, every time I see this photograph on my wall, I’m reminded, time is precious. We shouldn’t give it to just anyone.
